Co-parenting Support

During separation or divorce, parents may elect to pursue a child custody evaluation to safeguard their child's best interests. In cases where conflict levels are heightened, such evaluations may be court-ordered. Licensed Mental Health Professionals, equipped with both clinical proficiency and understanding of mental well-being, child development, familial dynamics, and custody matters, provide invaluable support to parents as they navigate the journey of determining the most nurturing parenting arrangement for their child and family unit. Brittany Todd, our Founder and CEO, is not only a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, Interventionist, and Parent Instructor but also holds credentials from the National Board of Forensic Evaluators as a Certified Forensic Mental Health Evaluator and a Certified Child Custody Evaluator. With over a decade of experience, Brittany has dedicated her career to working with individuals and families within the legal system, guiding them through the process of determining the best interests of their children and family units.

A Custody Evaluation includes a diagnostic interview with both parents and children, usually done individually, a parenting interview with both parents together, individual psychological testing of the parents and children, and parent-child interaction observations. The evaluator assesses the mental health and wellness functioning of all family members, and the capabilities of both parents. The evaluator assesses the child's psychosocial needs, taking into account their development and individual characteristics. They evaluate each parent's strengths in tailored clinical interviews, considering the family's needs. Additionally, the evaluator reviews empirical data on various custody arrangements and factors in the adequacy of each parent's social environment, such as school and community support, in meeting the child's needs.

OVERVIEW

After analyzing all of the information, the evaluator creates a strategy as to what the best custody and visitation arrangement possibilities are at this time. Although the evaluator provides a comprehensive analysis, they do not determine the final parenting agreement. Nevertheless, their expert viewpoint significantly influences the final parenting agreement, potential family therapy, and all court and legal custody matters. If the parents can not come to an agreement, the judge will consider and utilize the CCCE’s expert opinion to determine the final decision.

Forensic Mental Health Evaluations are used by the legal system to address and evaluate various legal issues. This includes determining one's competence to stand trial, criminal responsibility, potential transfer to adult court, parenting capacity, considerations of insanity, as well as evaluations regarding the risks of psychosis, violence, and/or sexual dangerousness. Individuals across both adult and juvenile offender demographics undergo Forensic Mental Health Evaluations.

Forensic Evaluations

Our Founder and CEO, Brittany Todd, holds multiple qualifications such as Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, Interventionist, and Parent Instructor. Furthermore, she is accredited by the National Board of Forensic Evaluators as both a Certified Forensic Mental Health Evaluator and a Certified Child Custody Evaluator. With extensive experience within the legal domain, she has served as a juvenile advocate, testified as a mental health expert witness, served as a therapeutic fact witness, conducted custody evaluations, and now operates as a Forensic Mental Health Evaluator. Understanding the importance of these pursuits, Brittany is deeply committed to uniting mental health and legal domains.

Forensic Mental Health Evaluators conduct forensic assessments and risk evaluations and present their findings to the court typically through comprehensive written reports. Upon request, they offer expert testimony regarding their assessments and professional suggestions. During the evaluation process, the evaluator conducts clinical diagnostic interviews, evaluates and interprets mental health, substance abuse, and/or behavioral/IQ tests, and offers diagnoses, treatment recommendations, and a detailed summary of results and supporting evidence.
